Following the recent barbarous killing of Cecil the lion, many people are asking what makes someone want to hunt.
There was a time when hunting was acceptable, necessary and even encouraged. The courageous males would go out to hunt, kill and bring back the food as the women waiting for their heroic return. An even better question would be why do people feel the need to harm others at all? Why does anyone feel the need to consume an animal or its secretions? Why does anyone feel the need when accessible supermarkets exist full of cruelty-free plant-based foods? Whether its hunting, going to the zoo, breeding dogs, or consuming animals… its all the same: oppression, slavery, exploitation, and abuse. Why does society feel the need to take part in any of it?
