Submission Call: From The Shadows – A Printed Words Anthology (NOW CLOSED)

Printed Words is looking for writers to submit their poems and stories for the anthology, From the Shadows.

What we’re looking for:

Poetry – 40 lines maximum (including line breaks)

Fiction – between 1000 – 3000 words UPDATE (10 April 2021) We will consider all fiction submissions received so far, but are only looking for poetry from now on.

The genre must be crime or horror. Other than that, there is no specific theme. Surprise us.

Guidelines: All accepted work will be formatted in the same way to fit with the anthology, but we would appreciate it if you could send your work as a word document. The submission team will read and make a decision in batches, so the anthology might fill up before the closing date.

Names and anything else identifying you will be removed, so we can have a fair judgment based on your work and nothing else. (Not on race, sexuality, gender, education… Not even if your cat shares the same name as ours. We don’t have a cat, but would love to someday.)

Don’t send more than three poems or one story.

While reprints will be considered, we strongly prefer unpublished work.

Send your poems stories and any questions to:

If accepted, you will be asked to provide a short bio.

Payment: A free PDF of the anthology and royalties – 60% of the profits will be shared among the writers. You will have the chance to help promote the anthology if you wish.

Closing Date: 30th April 2021

Expected publication date: September 2021

Additional information: The editor and submission team aim to help writers whose work is not selected, by providing constructive feedback. However, we understand not everyone likes this. So, to avoid our team wasting their team, please state if you do not want this feedback. This allows us to focus on writers who appreciate help and suggestions in how to improve their work.

Our first anthology, Words to Remember included work from 43 writers and raised money for several cancer charities.
