This is the ninth in my series of poems.
Here are the links to catch up on the rest of this series first.
A few weeks later, Lila saved enough
To stop sleeping on benches
And move into a room in large house
The bed was stained and the walls stripped bare
But it was private and out of sight
Of people walking by, unlike the bench
Orphaned and stranded, she tried to adapt.
She read magazines telling her
About fashion and homes to be proud of
She bought nice things for her room
And decorated the wall with fancy paper
Then bought a mattress without stains
She read about love
But it didn’t match her experience with Jay
The only articles about a boyfriend
Killing his girlfriends parents
Ended with the boyfriend
Locked up in a prison for twenty years
She knew enough to know
That would never happen to Jay
The people in charge of this world
Had issued the order
And he would be rewarded
There would be no punishment
Knowing revenge was wrong
Lila tried to move on
Reading more, watching talent shows
To pass the nights
Working hard to pass the days
Earning herself a pay rise
Sadly an intriguing verse, and I must expand my imagination to understand more about this medium.
